I’ll heading out to Taiwan later this year, so it was interesting to stumble across this news article about a Taiwanese restaurant blogger who has received a suspended prison sentence over a negative restaurant review.
Although the sentence and fine of 200,000 Taiwanese dollars (just under £4,300) seems incredibly excessive, the blogger didn’t do herself any favours. According to the report of the court’s verdict, she ‘should not have criticized all the restaurant’s food as too salty because she only had one dish on her single visit.’ Words to live by, although I wish I could find a copy of her original review to judge for myself.
It’s easier to sympathise with the restauranteur in this case than it was with Benihana in their laughable libel case against a Kuwaiti restaurant blogger over a similarly sloppy worded review.
